Tale of 2 Murthys

Infosys comes out with a bonus issue on its silver anniversery. Just over a year ago, they had made a similar issue. Also, T Mohandas Pai leaves CFO post.

In my previous organisation there was no retirement age. How could there when all the hotshots were over 70. One leg in grave and another in office ...

Cynical me thinks that Infy's founders are pretty smart in advertising for their organisation. I have watched a lot of episodes of N R Narayan Murthy on his austere life and ethics to know that. There is no better way to publicise Infy than this.

Yet I really like the gentleman, his values and what he has done. If there is any biography I would ever 'buy' and read, it would be his and Sudha's.

P.S. (Disloyal) investor me has been obsessed with Infy's stock and has not traded much in them ever. Looking at the kind of individuals who manage it, it has been a cool decision

Nice post.

Indeed I am also a fan of Mr. Murty and , perhaps, that may be the one reason that this article attracted my attention but still, wasnt much there to read :).

Well, one thing that I will like to mention is that Infosys and Mr. Murty are two different identities and it wud had made some sense if Mr. NRN (as is referred commonly) had been CEO anymore.

I agree that Infy represents face of modern India but still there are many things which make you go away from this renowned org once you are into the system. Thats all that I will like to say for this moment.

NRN is above 60 and so would step out of whatever little role he still has. But the complete founding team is like that -- idealistic.

We don't find such kind of people elsewhere. So, from an investor's perspective -- it is as well governed and transparent firm as you can find in India.

A counter-example is RIL, which despite a shareholder of I had no idea that Mukesh got 45% of its subsidiary RCoVL (or whatever) for 50 crores only. They are awash with petro-dollars, and thats why everybody loves them.

On if Infy is a good firm from an employee's perspective, I am not sure as "Think Scale" is their motto -- and where there is scale, individuals value goes down automatically.
